This is one of the most helpful discussions of St. Joseph I have encountered. The inferences about his wise action and exercise of judgment as the head of the family seem entirely warranted and reasonable. When the supernatural intervenes in his dreams, he responds by doing God's will, thereby revealing his character.

By the same token, our Blessed Mother speaks comparatively seldom in the Gospels and only at the most pivotal moments. Even at the foot of the Cross, she is a silent presence along with St. John, and we are only given the words of Jesus addressed to her.

This is an interesting topic for me.

I find, what appears to be, the increasing elevation of St Joseph on part with the Blessed Mother to be unsettling. (See changing the names of the Memorare as an example)

It has caused me to avoid most devotion to St Joseph.
